Building on almost 30 years experience with alcohol fuel cell sensors

Formaldehyde sensor Concern over the long term effects of exposure to formaldehyde, particularly in the home, continues to drive legislators to seek to enforce lower and lower exposure limits. A concern level of 0.08 ppm is typical, but even lower levels are being considered. These two-electrode diffusion sensors for environmental monitoring are based on conventional breath alcohol sensor technology. They do not require a pumped sample (although some users prefer to operate them in that way). The formaldehyde sensor is available in four versions:

Product Code
Economy sensor with wire contacts 2-FE3W
Economy sensor with pcb connector (illustrated) 2-FE3P
Premium sensor with wire contacts 2-FDW
Premium sensor with pcb connector (illustrated) 2-FDP

For direct attachment to a circuit board, choose wire contacts. For off-the–board connection, choose the miniature pcb attachment. The premium sensor has a higher catalyst loading and can therefore cope with higher formaldehyde levels.

For further details refer to the relevant datasheet.

Also available as a remote module which contains sensor and high gain amplifier (left). It has three connections: power in, signal out, and common earth.

Obtaining accurate calibration values has also been taxing, and to this end we have installed traceable (NIST) permeation tube standards and obtained “Little Swan” photometric measurement equipment. We offer a formaldehyde liquid standard referenced to these methods in 500ml bottle with security cap.
