Who We Are

Our History

Breathalysers; air conditioners; air cleaners; pollution monitors; you won’t see our name on the product, but our sensors can often be found at the heart of their operation. Formed in 1994, we are based in Exeter in the south-west of England, and we have maintained an office for sales and technical support in China since 2007. Our manufacture is almost entirely for export (we received the UK Queen’s Award for International Trade in 2010) and we send our products regularly to customers in Asia, Europe, North and South America, Africa and Australia. Our sensors, installed in many professional breathalysers worldwide, have provided the evidence for countless drink-drive convictions over 25 years, and they are installed in a very high proportion of personal consumer units.

Founded by Dr Walter King based on experience in the fuel cell sensor industry, Dart Sensors has grown from a single employee in one room to an award-winning organisation supplying customers ranging from hobbyists to global corporations. Our high-quality products and industry leading technology have allowed us to retain notable customers in the industry.

Quality

Our Quality Management System has been certified to ISO 9001 by NQA since 2001. Our commitment to quality does not stop with compliance; we aim to improve our production and service performance on an ongoing basis, using customer, employee and corrective action feedback to identify where improvements can be made.

Dart Sensors Shenzhen Ltd

Dart Sensors Shenzhen (DSSZ) provides local support and service to customers based in Hong Kong and China. Now a Wholly Foreign Owned Enterprise (WFOE), DSSZ holds a modest stock of our products for local sales and can carry out formaldehyde sensor calibration.

Environmental and Social Responsibility

We are committed to a programme of management and continuous improvement of our impact on the world in which we live. Our Environmental Management System has been certified to ISO 14001 by NQA since 2019. Recent improvements include the installation of a 20kW solar array on the roof of our UK factory, an energy regenerating lift and adjustments in our processes to reduce water consumption by over 50%.

We currently recycle most of our office and laboratory waste and encourage our employees to use greener methods of transportation—for example many of our employees’ cycle to work. As well as our environmental impact we take our responsibility to our employees very seriously.
